Technology as enabler for inclusive hybrid work?

As a Customer Success Manager, I consult key stakeholders from board members to IT decision makers on the business value of hybrid work applications. Based on my professional experience, organizations doubt the far-reaching impact of these technologies. Despite the efforts made so far, it is neither fully understood how technology impacts organizational behavior towards inclusion, nor how intelligent technology fosters an inclusive hybrid workplace (Forrester Research, Inc., 2019).

What’s hybrid work? People working together, both online and in-person, at anytime from anywhere — home, remote, or an office.”

(Microsoft, 2021)

Based on my comprehensive research in the past weeks, the following applies:

Latest trends show that

  • the future is flexible with hybrid and remote work ((Bloom, 2021), (Sinha et al., 2022)),
  • the global talent shortage is growing (Binvel et al., 2018),
  • inclusion is a business need (Korn Ferry, 2021).

Leaders play a key role in creating an inclusive and hybrid work environment ((Chung et al., 2020), (Garro-Abarca et al., 2021)).

Technology enables leaders and organizations to meet current trends (Forrester Research, Inc., 2019).

Inclusion is the extent to which each person in an organization feels welcomed, respected, supported and valued as a team member.”

(SHRM, 2022)

Technology is capable of addressing and meeting current business trends. It empowers everyone to work in their optimal way while avoiding an ‘always on’ mentality in remote and hybrid work scenarios (Klinghoffer, 2021). These advantages increase employee performance (Bataineh, 2019).
